If you’ve spent any time around me in the last several years, you may have heard me say this phrase: “It’s all made up.”
This has become my personal mantra and my simplified advice for anyone caught in a frustrating or difficult spot.
Literally everything in this world was created. The clothes you are wearing? Made up. The food that you ordered? Made up. The politics you practice, and the organizations that you work for? Made up. The churches you attend? Those traditions? Also made up!
This is not to be used purely as a knock against any of those things. It’s a reminder that everything was made by fallible humans. If something exists that you don’t like or is harmful to you, remember, you have the ability to make something else up.
The phrase “it’s all made up” has been a comfort to me because it reminds me that I can also dream up my world and my reality. I’m not stuck or bound to anything anyone else has set up for themselves.
It reminds me that I am capable of creating and designing the life I want to lead and live. It also inspires me to make up ways to help the people around me.
If you are stuck in a cycle or situation that has you trapped, I encourage you to think about how those things only have power if you let them. It’s all made up.
I believe in this set of words so deeply that I had it tattooed on my arm to be a constant reminder to me, and anyone else who sees it, to take comfort in the understanding that this life is what you make it.
I had the design turned into stickers, so you too can place this reminder anywhere you need it. It’s paired with the lavender sprig, also tattooed on my arm, symbolizing the healing power these words can have.
Please remember: it’s all made up.
p.s. If you want a sticker, please reach out! I’ll send it to you. Or if you’re close by, I’ll hand deliver.
